Hey folks,

I am putting together a project I've been working long and hard (oooo baby!) on.

A major part of this requires that I gather a LOT of sound samples.
I primarily need "monster sounds".  By that, I mean:

More like Godzilla & Predator & The Aliens & stuff like that.  Although something like Freddy Kreuger may be a "monster" technically, and we may all love it when he says "Daddy can't help you now!"...  That's not really what I need.  I need more along the lines of:

Growls
Roars
Snorts
Snarls
Hisses

Stuff like that.
Some of them can and will be used directly, some will be edited into new and layered tracks to produce custom sounds.

I would LOVE some ideas and feedback from you folks in this area.  Movies, Video Games, Anime / Cartoons, TV shows, WHATEVER!
Tell me about some cool monsters or similar sound effects that you love, or think might be helpful.  Just a name is fine, but if you know specifically where I can snag audio files from a web site or something, that would make you an angel!

Here is a list of stuff I have been looking into so far, or have obtained sound clips / files from:
LOST
Godzilla (and assorted Kaiju friends, such as Gamera, Gigan, Various Ultraman Creatures etc etc)
Cloverfield
Sleestaks (fuck yes!)
Bioshock
Doom
Ju-On

Various animal sounds:
Whales
Hyenas
Various insects
etc
etc
etc
Still collecting more of these as I go, too.

If anyone knows where I can get my mitts on an audio clip of that awesome insect sound that Pumpkinhead makes, I would be thrilled, I've had a hell of a time with it.  I might have to sit down with the DVD and try to extract it, but that's hard what with people yelling, gun shots, explosions and background music.

I know there are a lot of simple and obvious things that I have forgotten, over looked, and probably never even heard of, so ANY idea you have would be awesome, please share and help me to make some art!

In a weird sort of mood this morning. Undefinable. But I have a weird stabbing pain in my head, and maybe it's making me crazy enough to do this:

So I'm offering you Maps & Legends

Hey, I'll even answer questions. Maybe there's something to be said for it.

A Quick guide (if I forgot anything, ask & I'll add it)

Text appearing in (this shade of) Blue typically denotes a dream. Or a Dream (yes there's a difference. If you don't know the difference, that's something I can answer I suppose, but I don't want to bore both of you all if it's old obvious news.).

Text in this shade of Grey is typically used for quotation. Often times it'll be lyrics or literature. Things Written By Others. These things are always also in Italics, thus the look of this line.

Sometimes text is colour coded towards a specific audience. This Purple used to be you & I think you were once this one. Once this nauseating shade of Pink was you (maybe because I really don't like that colour at ALL.) You were once Red, but now you're Dead & Red can be any number of things but we'll talk about that later. I think another shade of pink stood for you a few times. You once had a light blue. I have been coloured green (Green is the colour of my God) more often than not, as it's the default colour of most of my web sites. But none of these are set in stone, as they're usually more about a reflection of a certain nuance of interaction or or just to make something stand out. The whole world is RAINBOWs, so these change often and randomly.

Bold, Underline, Strike Through, and Italics can be just for tonal emphasis, although "Italics with quotes" or colour is always a quotation.

The hidden text: FYI, yes it always spells out something. Yes, it always means something. The colours are generally selected simply for aesthetics, but rarely they may refelct mood or target. Sometimes if it's more than one separate message sharing space, then different colours may just denote different message strings, and I might just start to run out of easy to detect colours. I tend to like to use red because it's a good contrasting colour. I also like that Halloween Orange colour. Those are definitely easy to see.

Sometimes things are hidden in font size or shape as well. Sometimes things are hidden black on black or white on white fonts, so that you can only find it by highlighting the correct area. Those ones are hidden from you the best, but also the most rare and very few people have ever found them. But sometimes that's what it's about.

I am sure that there are a million other confusions, questions, & points of clarification that I could address, but I don't have any more coming to mind right off my head, because... well this IS all my head, so I can't really know what you know & what you don't...

So, ask away. If I stay in this mood, I'll be willing to answer 99% of your questions as straight forwardly as possible, but I reserve the right to not answer some things anyhow LOL ;)

Ugly as Sin

I've was thinking, idly over the last few days, but in a more specific way last night.  About 'Sin'.  It's usually scary enough when I've 'been thinking' but probably more-so when it's a topic such as this.  Now, the Good Book tells us that we have seven primary, or 'deadly' sins and ten commandments, and all sorts of other plagues and locusts and what-have-you.  In case you've been under a rock since the world was created six thousand years ago, the list of those sins reads as such: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.

These are not to be confused with the Ten Commandments, even though some of them overlap, and even though some of them contradict one another, and even though, God himself is clearly seen to break them on a regular basis.  But that's another story for another time, and if you've already swallowed the Sinai-de in the Flavor Aid  that Moses offered you then God help you, indeed.

But for today, we're not really talking about this in depth, just bringing up the concepts because they relate to what I really plan to talk about.  We supposedly have seven of these little buggers, but I think they're wrong.

Lust:  Seriously?  A Sin?  If it's a sin, then you're doing it wrong.  Maybe this is something they added simply to give an added measure of guilt and a few more 'Hail Mary's to priests after they touch schoolboys.  Otherwise, I'm calling BS on Lust being a sin.  Rather, I say: yes, let's try that again, please.

Gluttony:  This one we're going to simply pass over because this is not a lecture on hypocrisy today.  I'll save that for another time.

Greed:  Holy shit, don't get me started!  See above, to the 9th power!

Sloth:  Trivia!  Sloth, back in the day of this original usage, didn't mean 'laziness'.  It's quite fine and not a sin at all to be lazy.  Sloth originally stood for 'sadness' or 'depression' .  True story, you can look it up.  So, kids!  Remember, it's a sin to not be happy!

Wrath:  This one's tough for me.  I'm a big fan of wrath.  After lust, it's probably my favourite.  Move along, folks, move along :P

Envy:  This is the newbie of the sins.  He wasn't on the list to start with, but he throws his weight around now.  It's funny, envy being a sin in a system where they're hell-bent on monogamy and possession and control of the female of the species.  Seems like all that nonsense would be rooted where, exactly?  Ahhhh!  Envy!  So, where I do rather see envy as a silly thing and something I would like to personally overcome, It seems a bit ...well, see the comment about hypocrisy, and I'll let it go for now.

Pride:  We're not talking Lions here folks, although, I really DO think Christianity needs to become more familiar with Lions again..  For some reason, Pride or Vanity is deemed THE worst of these sins.  Which is pretty funny, considering the multi million dollar churches I see daily, and the 'better than you' attitudes they contain.  You'd better scrape up a balance, suckers.  Don't have pride, but don't be down on yourself enough to slip into sloth!  Damned if you do, damned if you don't!  Literally!

Now that we've gotten the introductions out of the way, I can get on to what I actually came here to talk about today.
That, my friends, is

Complacency

To me, this is the largest sin in life.  To settle.  To give up.  To accept things as they are.  To just sit around and think 'this'll do' and wait 'till you die.  Fuck all kinds of that.  I'm with Chuck on this one "May I never be complete.  May I never be content.  May I never be perfect. "  Give me something to strive for.  I'm not saying I want things to be difficult or hard or bad.  Not that I want to suffer or be poor or have drama.  I am saying that no matter how wonderful and magical things are, I will always work for just a little bit more.  Always dream bigger.  Always reach for that star, for those planets in alignment on a four year horizon.  You can never have too much laughter and love and wonder.

I do believe in perfection.  Hell, I've found it myself a time or two before.  I believe it's something you strive for and something you work to maintain.  I believe that complacency robs you of perfection.

I am replacing all your deadly sins.
I am replacing all your commandments.

Sin you not with Complacency, Hypocrisy, Racism, Oppression, Enslavement, Prejudice, or Stupidity

I say to you:
Thou Shalt Never be Complacent
Thou Shalt Not Deny Passion
Thou Shalt Dream
Thou Shalt Foster Hope
Thou Shalt Love With All Thy Heart
Thou Shalt Create
Thou Shalt Follow Thy Whimsy
Thou Shalt  Be Just, Steadfast and True
Thou Shalt Have Compassion
Thou Shalt Be Mindful and Never Take Anything For Granted

I've learned a lesson.

I'm not sure I'm in the mood to give any detailed or deep explanations of it right now, but it's sort of ... huge(?) for me.  I've been thinking about it for days now, and I'm wanting to make a note, even if I'm still not up for the novel just yet.

Self:

The Path is fluid.

thank you.

ok, first, here's the long promised video.
it's the first video I ever edited. It was filmed by my stepdad with my moms digital camera.
it's not even a video camera, it's just a sony digital camera that can capture video.

the most important thing about this all was the movement, and 'disguising the body lines'

if that won't work, here's a direct link to watch the video on youtube.
feel free to share.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtpN5Tt1Elo

aaaand, finally, halloween pictures.
there's a ton, so they're behind the cut. I'd reccoment watching the video first.
it's fine with ot without sound. I just added some music because I could, but there's nothing important going on sound wise.

anyhow, enjoy:

I've already made some major improvements to my costume since halloween.

I wore it for about 6 hours that day total. about an hour at work, and about 5 downtown.
the only thing that was sore the next morning were my hands (of all things!) The rest of me just felt like I'd had a nice workout, nothing stressful.

I made the stilts by hand. they were wooden. I practiced on them about 3 times for about 15 minutes each before the big day. I guess I learned fast :P

the arms were just some medical crutches I got on ebay for a fraction of the cost and modified and made longer.

the body, I sewed up in about 15 minutes.

the head took the most time, gave me the most fits, and made me hate it over and over.
it was giant, made of foam, fabric, and paint, hand sewn.
it was eventually mounted to a bike helmet.
It had a light in it, which ate batteries, and I'll find a better lighting option next time.

the costume had a battery powerd string of lights around the waist as well. those worked awesomely.
they don't appear in all the pictures, as I didn't wear them on the trip to work, since it wasn't dark at all.

I'll answer any questions I see fit to, but do remember that a girl's gotta keep his secrets ;)

several thousand pictures (conservative estimate) were taken of and with me downtown, and I'd love to see them! so if you run across any, lemme know!

for any of you who had your profiles affected by the recent myspace censorship issues, this link may be helpful for you:
http://rufuswhite.blogspot.com/2007/06/more-myspace-censorship-and-how-to-get.html

2 of my links stopped working

apparently they have linking to some sites completely blocked (such as angelfire) and this is a quick and easy work around for it.

so my link to The Little Prince is now fully functional, thanks to this simple trick.
redirection for the win.

I'm sure it's not something that'll affect everyone to start with, but I like my external links, and  plan on keeping them.

plus corporate censorship is always completely lame, and even if it was something I didn't care about I would still look for a way around it, just to thwart them.

It also censored the link to my friends 3 legged cat's home page.
But I didn't have to make a trick for that one, I just linked to his myspace site, since he has one now.

I like it when everything works.

and this:

is EXACTLY what I'd get if I somehow magically had a few hundred million bucks.
